Audition Date and location

OPEN AUDITONS: September 10th & 6PM

Location - The Friction Theatre

801 Joe Mann Boulevard, Midland MI, 48642

To find the new Friction Theatre Office space located by the Midland Mall, go to the McLaren building (a Blue and white building), 801 Joe Mann Boulevard, Midland, MI, 48642.

Enter the automatic doors in the front, then head to the elevator and go to the Second Floor. Turn left and we are in the suite right before the bathrooms. We are currently the only occupants on the floor, so if you hear people, go there!

Megan Krause will help anyone find the space, and you can call or text if you get lost 260-409-8983

  • This audition will consist of singing and acting.

    • Since there will be no live accompanist, we will provide tracks and song options from the show that are posted below. Choose the song that best fits your voice.

    • We may play around with the group harmony number if time permits, and our Music Director, Sherri, would like to hear more. This is not something that needs to be memorized. I have put the music down below if you would like to review it, but this is not a requirement.

    • We will have sheet music at the auditions printed for you if you need. Memorized is always prefered.  Please note that we're looking for someone to sing bass. If you think you can, please familiarize yourself with "Sixteen Tons", because that will be one we may ask people to attempt during the audition.

    • You will be provided sides for cold reads. The scenes are posted below if you would like to get an early look at the characters and sides.

  • Please show up before 6 PM. We will see you in the order you arrive and sign in on our sign-up sheet.

  • Please ensure your audition form is completed before we see you, ideally before the day of auditions.

  • If you can not attend this night, please email us at info@thefrictiontheatre.org to let Megan Krause know and we will try to accommodate a different audition time.

  • There will be no callbacks for this show.

Character Breakdown

CHARACTERS

FRANKIE: Second Tenor-Lyric Baritone. The leader, confident but humble, and always taking care of the rest of the group. He has asthma, which occasionally acts up if the tempo is too fast or if the choreography is too intense. Despite being humble, he is a "Romantic Crooner."

SPARKY: Baritone. He is the clown and is always looking to crack a joke. He wears a retainer and has a slight lisp or speech impediment. Despite his speech, he loves telling stories and relishes every word he says. Also, he often repeats himself because of how fast he speaks.

JINX: Tenor. He is shy, and always terrified of being on stage. He often forgets what song or dance move is next. He is Sparky’s stepbrother. The other members of the group are very protective of him. He gets an occasional nose bleed when he sings above an ‘A.’

SMUDGE: Bass. He worries about everything from the props, to the running order, to the audience not liking him. Suffers from a chronic nervous stomach, and is very reluctant to perform. He is also dyslexic, and wears glasses. Underneath his glasses, however, is a great deal of good looks and sex appeal.

* All of these characters need to be seen as "real" people and not as a caricature. *

* Age range: 18 - 50. All body types, races, & ethnicities are welcome to audition.*
